Monarchs get a home at Shelton House
The gardens at the Historic Shelton House in Waynesville are now attracting monarch butterflies, thanks to the efforts of the dedicated volunteers who maintain the gardens.
Local garden clubs and volunteers began to work on the project in 2016, planting native flowers and milkweed plants that monarchs need to thrive. The gardens are now certified as an official Monarch Waystation, allowing Shelton House visitors to enjoy seeing monarchs from August to September.
The museum and gardens at the Shelton House are open Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. through the end of October.
