Samuel Smith receives Governor’s award
Gov. Roy Cooper recently presented a Medallion Award for Volunteer Service to Samuel Smith of Waynesville at the State Capitol in Raleigh.
Cooper issued 22 Medallion Awards in 14 categories. Smith was honored in the Lifetime Achievement Category after being nominated for his work with Haywood County Fairgrounds.
“Volunteerism teaches us all that we need to know about being good neighbors and better citizens,” Cooper said. “Volunteers are the best of us, and those of you being honored today have gone above and beyond.”
Medallion Award recipients are nominated at the county level then evaluated by a panel of community service leaders from across the state.
