Mapping conflicts of interest
On Monday, May 22, the Cherokee Tribal Council will preside over a hearing to consider impeachment charges against Principal Chief Patrick Lambert. Afterward, Council will vote on whether to remove him from office.
However, 11 of the 12 councilmembers could have conflicts of interest in the outcome. Tribal Council, which approved the articles of impeachment containing the charges against Lambert, also includes members who are witnesses to the alleged violations. In addition, some of its members are under federal investigation due to a forensic audit that Lambert initiated.
