Old-time remedies explained
See old-time remedies in action with a demonstration by Smokies naturalist Ila Hatter, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 28, behind the historic courthouse in Bryson City.
Hatter, whose intimate knowledge of Southern Appalachian plants and their traditional stories and uses has earned her the title of “wildcrafter,” will also speak about her role in the creation of Women of the Smokies. The book, by Gatlinburg writer Courtney Lix, tells the stories of 19 mountain women whose skills and accomplishments have shaped the region’s culture and history. The book contains a chapter on Hatter.
