Boats banned from new Lake Glenville swimming area
Starting in August, no boating vessels will be allowed at the new swimming area at the Pines Recreation Area on Lake Glenville in Jackson County following a vote by the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission this month.
The new recreation area was completed last year by Duke Energy as part of its agreement for its federal permits to harness hydropower from Western North Carolina rivers. The agreement included stipulation that Duke provide various recreational accesses along the waterways.
Duke requested the no-boats rule to ensure safety of swimmers using the new beach.
The regulation will go into effect Aug. 1.
