History lovers needed for mill volunteer force
An orientation for volunteers who’d like to tell visitors about the history of Mingus Mill in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park near Cherokee will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, at the Oconaluftee Visitor Center.
The mill offers visitors a look at the inner workings of the turbine-wheel-operated mill, which churns out custom-ground cornmeal in a fraction of the time of other mill types.
Volunteers work at least one four-hour shift per week from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the peak season of May through the end of November.
