Learn to tread lightly at Wilderness Skills Institute
Registration is now open for the fifth Wilderness Skills Institute, a training program for Wilderness stewardship and management, held at the Cradle of Forestry in Pisgah National Forest.
The event, presented by the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, will be held May 18-22 and May 26-29, teaching the specialized skills that trail maintainers need to work in designated wilderness areas. Programs include crosscut saw training, wilderness history and stewardship, trail construction and maintenance, first aid, balancing visitation with solitude and advanced trail structures with an emphasis on stonework.
