Blue Ridge Biofuels expands

Blue Ridge Biofuels, an Asheville-based biodiesel company, is planning to expand to a new facility in Catawba County.

The new biodiesel factory will be located in the Catawba County EcoComplex in a LEED Silver-certified facility running on methane gas from an adjacent landfill. Blue Ridge will increase production capacity from its current level of 500,000 gallons a year to 3 million by 2017. The company converts waste oil into biodiesel fuel, which is then sold at gas stations and by delivery throughout the region. It’s compatible with any diesel engine.

The company will maintain its distribution and collection hub in Asheville.
