Comments open on coyote hunting in red wolf territory
Comments are open regarding a proposed prohibition on coyote hunting in a five-county area in northeastern North Carolina. The area is home to the world’s only native red wolf population, which look similar to coyotes — posing a dangerous case of mistaken identity.
A ban on coyote hunting is already in effect in those counties following a court order in a lawsuit brought against the Wildlife Commission for allegedly violating the Endangered Species Act by allowing coyote hunting in the experimental red wolf introduction area.
The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission is taking comments until June 23. Submit to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
