Race to support the Community Table
Registration is now open for the Assault on Black Rock, a seven-mile trail race in Jackson County that takes runners and hikers on an ascent and descent of one of Western North Carolina’s most picturesque mountain summits.
The 4th annual Assault on Black Rock will be held on Saturday, March 22, at Sylva’s Pinnacle Park. Runners and hikers who register for the race will climb rocky roadbeds and a single-track trail to the 5,810-foot Black Rock summit on the spine of the Plott Balsam Mountains.
The first 100 registrants for the race will receive a T-shirt, and prizes will be awarded to the top finishers.
For those who complete the race in 101 minutes — known as Black Rock 101 Challenge — will get a special belt buckle.
The pre-registration fee is $25, and the fee is $30 on race day. All proceeds from the race go to the Community Table, a nonprofit organization in Sylva that offers free, nutritious meals and a free food pantry to local residents in need.
