Learn ins and outs of seed saving

out seedsavingSeed expert Keith Nicholson will cover the what, why and how of vegetable seeds and seed saving at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at the Macon County Public Library Meeting Room.

His lecture will cover the basics of vegetable seeds and help anyone looking to save their own seeds at home. His presentation will clarify the terminology of seeds and plants, explain the progression of seed technology and outline the life cycles of vegetables. His talk will include demonstrations for wet and dry seed processing.

Nicholson first learned seed saving growing up on a farm in rural Ohio and later received a degree in horticulture. He also worked as a research technician in the vegetable improvement division of a large seed company. Nicholson hopes to share his combination of home-grown experience and technical training with attendees.
