The fifth annual Assault on BlackRock trail race is now in the rearview mirror, with 82 brave souls battling freezing temperatures frosted with snow and ice to complete the grueling 7-mile race.
The race takes off from Pinnacle Park in Sylva and climbs a steep trail up to Blackrock Mountain in the old Sylva watershed before returning back to the trailhead. Times spanned the gamut from 1 hour, 14 minutes to 3 hours, 17 minutes.

The event raised $2,406 for The Community Table, a nonprofit in Sylva that serves hot meals and operates a food pantry for those facing food insecurity.
