Bethel Elementary School third-grader Jade Cody has been named the state winner in a poster contest sponsored by the N.C. Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts and the N.C. Division of Soil and Water Conservation.ย

This yearโ€™s contest theme was โ€œWater โ€ฆ the Cycle of Life.โ€ Cody, who is in Meredith Allenโ€™s class, showed each of the steps in the water cycle and correlated them with a specific place on the globe. Before making it to Raleigh, Cody had to win the Haywood Soil and Water Conservation District contest and then the regional competition. She received $50 for winning the district contest, a $50 gift card for winning the area contest and will receive $200 for her state win.ย

The poster contest is one of several competitions offered through conservation district that include essay, slide show, public speaking and computer-designed poster contests for grades three through nine. Next yearโ€™s contest theme is โ€œThe Living Soil.โ€
