Brent Martin and John Lane will share their new books, “William Bartram and the Nature that Could Have Been” and “Interval Ownership: New Tales from Edisto,” at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at City Lights Bookstore in Sylva.

Martin examines William Bartram’s 18th-century journey through the Southern backcountry, using his celebrated 1791 book, “Travels,” as a baseline for understanding how the American landscape and its ecosystems have changed.

Lane’s “Interval Ownership” follows 13 owners who rotate through a beach house on Edisto Island, South Carolina. Each owner gets a week per season — and a story of their own.

The readings are free and open to the public. For more information, visit citylightsnc.com or call 828.586.9499.
