We all awakened Easter Sunday morning to receive the below message from the President of the United States, who proclaims he is a practicing person of faith: “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the F——— Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah.” 

To the Editor:

A lot of us know that Congress isn’t doing its job. But when Trump went on recent Truth Social rants using obscene language and threatening an entire civilization, most Republicans sat back and said nothing. Bad language is unbecoming of any President, and if Biden and Obama had done such a thing, the Republicans wouldn’t have wasted any time making an effort to censure them. 

The war with Iran is not only a perfect metaphor for Trump’s presidency and the MAGA movement in general, but it is also revealing of a basic truth that MAGA opponents can never quite seem to grasp: Trump’s supporters do not now, nor have they ever, looked to him for consistency, coherence, dignity, wisdom or even decency.

In reading the official press release from March 31, “USDA Prioritizing Common Sense Forest Management, Moves Forest Service Headquarters to Salt Lake City,” one would think, “All right, common sense!” 

A new political ad marks a sharp escalation in the U.S. Senate race between Democrat Roy Cooper and Republican Michael Whatley, turning Hurricane Helene recovery into a central line of attack by accusing Whatley of overseeing delays of more than $100 million in disaster relief and framing the stalled aid as a failure of leadership, rather than of bureaucracy. 

A pair of ads center on the claim that Whatley was tapped to lead the recovery but failed to deliver timely assistance.

During the first Dignified Transfer of six fallen soldiers, I was stunned to see Trump wearing a baseball cap. He sells these online for $55, proceeds going to himself. You may have done a double take, as I did. Was Trump actually defying protocol and showing such disrespect to these grieving families? 

Before the chants started and long before the first speaker took the microphone, people were already drifting toward one another — introducing themselves, comparing stories, soaking up the quiet relief of being in a crowd where, for once, they didn’t feel outnumbered. 

What emerged in those early moments of the March 28 “No Kings 3” rallies in Haywood and Jackson counties wasn’t just a protest but a kind of recognition, a temporary reordering of identity where private beliefs, often muted in churches, social circles or workplaces, could be expressed openly and without hesitation. 

They may be coming for just the signs, but the message is clear: let’s rewrite history while ignoring science. The disappointments of this administration just never stop piling up. 

A leaked memo from the Department of the Interior contained a list of markers and educational signage at national parks that this administration may have a problem with.

Abroad, the Trump Administration defies international laws, violates the United Nations Charter (that the U.S. helped develop) and threatens world peace by recklessly initiating wars with sovereign nations that pose no imminent threat to the United States or our allies. 

A leaked draft of the FEMA Review Council’s final report on reform of the disaster response agency appears to shift considerable burden onto states, local governments, tribes and territories (SLTTs) while slashing the agency’s workforce by 50%, positioning federal response in the rear and largely ignoring requests to send recovery funding down to the county level.
