Great Smoky Mountains National Park officials welcomedย twoย new members toย the Park Management Team.

ย

Katie Liming will serve as the management assistantย and Daniel โ€œBooneโ€ Vandzura willย serveย as the chief ranger to oversee the Visitor and Resource Protection Division.ย

Asย the parkโ€™s management assistant, which functions as chief of staff,ย Limingย will work on strategic operations, legislative affairsย and program analysis. Liming comes to the Smokies from the National Park Serviceโ€™sย National Capital Region, where she served as the regionโ€™s primary spokesperson and supported the 15ย national parks in the Greater Washington, D.C. areaย in strategic communications and media relations.ย ย

โ€œKatieโ€™s clear communication style, desire to connect the public to national parks, and her deep understanding of National Park Service policies make her a great fit for the parkโ€™s management team,โ€ said Superintendent Cassius Cash. โ€œShe is a natural leader and is already hard at work on high-level park projects.โ€ย

As chief ranger, Vandzura will lead the Visitor and Resource Protection Division which includes law enforcement, wildland fire, emergency medical services, search and rescue, backcountry operations,ย landsย and rights-of-way office,ย and the emergency communications center.ย

โ€œI am thrilled to welcome Boone to the Smokies and to the Park Management Team,โ€ saidย Deputyย Superintendent Alan Sumeriski. โ€œBooneโ€™s knowledge of law enforcement and emergency services, combined with his thoughtful approach to employee and community relationships, make him the perfect choice to run one of the agencyโ€™s busiest law enforcement and emergency services operations. โ€ย
