North Carolina’s westernmost state senator, Kevin Corbin, has secured his fourth term serving the state’s 50th district, defeating Democrat Tom Downing 58.19% to 41.81%.
He will continue to serve the state’s westernmost Senate District — which covers Cherokee, Clay, Macon, Graham, Swain, Jackson, and Transylvania counties and most of Haywood County — for two more years.
Corbin first made his Raleigh debut in 2016 when he won the seat for the N.C. House 120th District.
He served two terms in the N.C. House of Representatives before winning the Senate District 50 seat in 2020. Fellow Macon County native and friend Karl Gillespie succeeded Corbin in the House and also won his election Tuesday night.
