Free sports physicals for student athletes

Haywood Regional Medical Center will host its annual free sports physicals event for local student-athletes from 3-7 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at the Haywood Regional Health & Fitness Center located at 75 Leroy George Drive in Clyde.

Open to middle and high school students, this event provides a convenient, no-cost opportunity to complete required physicals ahead of the upcoming sports season.

Students will be seen based on their school’s designated time: Canton Middle and Bethel Middle from 3-4:30 p.m., Waynesville Middle from 4:30–5:30 p.m. and Tuscola High School from 5:30–7 p.m. Fifth-grade students should attend during the time slot for the school they will attend next year.

Families should contact their child’s school to obtain and complete the required registration packet prior to arrival. No appointments are necessary.

At our inception 20 years ago, we chose to be different. Unlike other news organizations, we made the decision to provide in-depth, regional reporting free to anyone who wanted access to it. We don’t plan to change that model. Support from our readers will help us maintain and strengthen the editorial independence that is crucial to our mission to help make Western North Carolina a better place to call home. If you are able, please support The Smoky Mountain News.

The Smoky Mountain News is a wholly private corporation. Reader contributions support the journalistic mission of SMN to remain independent. Your support of SMN does not constitute a charitable donation. If you have a question about contributing to SMN, please contact us.
