Tickets on sale for Blue Ghost Firefly tour

Tickets are now on sale for the 2026 “Blue Ghost Firefly Tour” at the Cradle of Forestry in America.

This annual event offers a rare opportunity to witness the mesmerizing display of the elusive Blue Ghost Fireflies (Phausis reticulata) in their natural habitat.

Blue Ghost fireflies are a rare firefly species found in the mountains of Southern Appalachia, known for their distinctive glow and tiny size. While their glow is lime green, it usually appears blue because of the Purkinje effect — a visual phenomenon when colors appear different in low light.

The Cradle of Forestry “Blue Ghost Firefly Tours” begins with an educational presentation at the outdoor amphitheater, where guests will have the opportunity to learn about the fascinating world of the blue ghost firefly. Following the presentation, visitors will embark on a hike under the cover of darkness along a paved trail through the forest, at their own pace, where they’ll have the chance to observe these enchanting creatures up close. Doors open at 8 p.m., with the event beginning at 8:45.

Event dates are May 9-24 and June 6-8. Tickets are $55 for adults and $27 for youth ages 4-12.

Tickets and more information are available at gofindoutdoors.org/blueghost.
