Cost-saving energy program now available

The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality’s Energy Saver North Carolina program is now available in all 100 counties, helping eligible households lower energy bills. Residents can check eligibility and apply for rebates to improve home efficiency, with more than $200 million available for upgrades.

Households may receive up to $16,000 for improvements such as heat pumps and insulation, with potential annual savings of nearly $1,000. Additional rebates of up to $14,000 are available for high-efficiency appliances like water heaters and electric cooktops.

Launched in select counties last January, the program has expanded statewide. So far, $777,000 in rebate-eligible projects have been installed in 51 homes. Energy Saver NC has received more than 4,800 applications, with over 1,700 approved and moving through the rebate reservation process.

Rebates are based on income and projected energy savings. Low-income households earning under 80% of Area Median Income may qualify for full rebates covering up to 100% of costs, while moderate-income households earning 80–150% of AMI may receive rebates covering up to 50% of project costs.
