As folks prepare to hit the slopes, the Jackson County Recreation is offering night trips over to the ski area, including special rates for passes and equipment rentals.
Forest bathing: slow down and immerse yourself
Count me among those who are proud that Jackson County has two fully accessible certified forest therapy trails, two of only 21 worldwide with that particular certification.
One is a mile-long paved track along the Tuckasegee River near Webster and Cullowhee. The other is the unpaved lower portion of the Pinnacle Park.
Take nature journaling walk in Jackson County
Jackson County Recreation is hosting a guided nature journaling walk, during which participants will deepen observation and recording skills while meandering along the greenway.
The walk will take place from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21. It is open to everyone 13 and older who can comfortably walk two miles. Meeting place is the Locust Creek Greenway entrance in Cullowhee.
Kayak Wolf Lake with Jackson County Rec
Adults and youth ages 10 and up are welcome to kayak Wolf Lake with Jackson County Recreation.
The day will begin at 9 a.m. Aug. 7 by meeting up at the Cullowhee Recreation Center.
Paddleboard at Wolf Lake
Jackson County recreation is hosting a stand-up paddleboarding event on Wolf Lake.
Beginners and seasoned paddlers alike are welcome to enjoy the adventure, which will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 20.
Jackson County Rec ’Archery 101’ course
Kids ages 10-14 in Jackson County will have the chance to learn the ins and out of archery.
The course will be held from 5-8 p.m. May 30 at the Cashiers/Glenville Recreation Center.
Paddleboard with Jackson County Rec
Jackson County Recreation is offering opportunities for people to enjoy a stand-up paddleboarding session for anyone age 14 or older.
Sessions will be held May 20 and July 1 at Wolf Lake and June 5 and June 20 at Bear Lake.
Jackson County Rec hosts youth ‘Archery 101’ course

Jackson County hosts bike rodeo
Join Jackson County Recreation from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at Cullowhee Valley School for a bike rodeo.
This is a bicycle safety event where when you register you get a free helmet (while supplies last). All children will also be entered in a raffle to win a bike.
