Our nation is better than this
To the Editor:
In reading the official press release from March 31, “USDA Prioritizing Common Sense Forest Management, Moves Forest Service Headquarters to Salt Lake City,” one would think, “All right, common sense!”
But hold on a minute. In reality, behind the curtain, this is another Trump/GOP scheme destroying regulatory systems that get in the way of extractive, destructive theft of our national commons, thus rewarding their supporters while simultaneously ruining and/or causing pain to the very citizens who helped to build this United States. We will spend years recovering from all the damage that President Trump and his fellow grifters have caused.
There is no limit, and certainly no expectation, that the GOP will buck up and do that “separation of powers” thing. They’ve not had a spine since Eisenhower. We’re allowing this administration to systematically dismantle the federal government, losing knowledge, skills and experience gained by the hard work of good people.
Lives, years and our dollars have been spent to build our United States. Our country should not be subject to the whims of a wannabe dictator. Congress has been abdicating its responsibilities every chance it gets to roll over for the Donald. There is no citizen mandate, no overwhelming landslide victory. Those are just talking point lies, as are the lies about election fraud. A pessimist might come to the conclusion that the GOP has lost its collective mind and is bent only on stuffing their pockets at the expense of all of us who still hold the quaint belief in the so-called “rule of law.”
This GOP can only win by cheating. Expect massive efforts to spoil the vote in their favor. How else could they stay in office?

As always, try and learn what is being done and why, and who is responsible. Vote as if our country depends on it. Help if there’s any way possible. Let’s all climb out of this seemingly bottomless hole Trump keeps digging deeper.
We are better than this.
