Partner content: Breakfast & Blood sugar
Question: “I have Type 2 diabetes. What are some good ideas for breakfasts and snacks that will help me keep my blood sugar under control?”
Answer:
First, it’s important to know how many carbohydrates or servings of food with carbohydrates you can have at a meal/snack.
Next, I always recommend that individuals with diabetes try and have a source of protein along with their carbohydrates.
Protein can be in animal products like eggs and breakfast meats, but it can also be in Greek yogurt, nut butters, cheeses and cottage cheese.
Carbohydrates are in foods like hot or cold cereal, toast/bread, and fruits.

Combining a source of protein and carbohydrates (while sticking to your carbohydrate amount) should do the trick as far as keeping you satisfied and also keeping your blood sugar under control.
Examples:
• Greek yogurt or cottage cheese with a small amount of fruit.
• Whole wheat toast with nut butter
• Scrambled/poached or fried eggs with a slice of whole wheat toast
• Cereal/oatmeal made with a higher protein milk (like Fairlife) - stir in nuts (or nut butter with oatmeal)
