WCU, Warren Wilson ensembles to perform

art gamelanWestern Carolina University’s Low Tech Ensemble will perform a gamelan degung from Western Java with Warren Wilson College’s Gamelan Ensemble, playing Central Javanese gamelan, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, in the recital hall of the Coulter Building on the WCU campus.

A gamelan is an orchestra of tuned percussion instruments that consists mainly of gongs, zithers and xylophones. While the two ensembles are similar in instruments, the two Javanese traditions are different in tunings and style.

The concert is free and open to the public.
