Maggie Valley Moonlight Run set for Saturday

out moonlightRunners will kick up their heels down the main drag of Maggie Valley this Saturday evening in the annual night-time Maggie Valley Moonlight Run.

The long-running race is now in its 31st year and historically attracted hundreds of runners and a line of spectators to cheer them on. The race is sponsored by Mission Health System.

The five-mile race starts at 8:30 p.m. from the Maggie Valley festival grounds and loops up and down the main road. A Sunset Fun Run will be held around the fairgrounds property at 7:30 p.m.

The post-race party will include beer from Asheville Brewing Co. and food.

One of the great traditions of the original Maggie Valley Moonlight Race was the presence of running clubs from across the region in the race venue. Clubs would have “tailgate” parties, swap meets and meeting places for their members.

Organized running clubs can reserve a free space inside the festival grounds to socialize and enjoy pre-race activities held Saturday afternoon.
