Volunteers spend two days a year — once in the spring and once in the fall — collecting aquatic insects, which offer valuable insight into the water quality.
Data collected is entered into a statewide water quality record and helps the state identify degraded waterways in need of additional attention.
A training session for new volunteers will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Cherokee.
