Untreated sewage discharged into Richland Creek

The Junaluska Sanitary District experienced a discharge of untreated sewage from a blockage in a line located Southeast of Loop Road in Clyde this afternoon.

The instance sewage totaled over 3,000 gallons. The sewage released at the adjacent Branch leading into Richland Creek. The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality's Division of Water Quality was notified of the event and is reviewing the matter.

General Statute 143-215.1C requires that the owner or operator of any wastewater collection or treatment works to issue a press release when an untreated wastewater discharge of 1,000 gallons or more reaches surface waters.
