| << Back 10/28/09 Jackson Democrats support health reform SMN To the Editor: Perhaps for the first time, Americans have a chance to see meaningful health care reform. President Obama and the Democratic leadership have set a goal and we are close to achieving a better system of health care for all Americans. On Tuesday, Oct 20, the Executive Committee of the Jackson County Democratic Party adopted the following resolution: “Whereas an estimated 24 percent of Jackson County citizens are uninsured and many more are under-insured; and “Whereas an estimated 47 million Americans are uninsured; and “Whereas health care spending for all Americans has increased at an alarming rate; and “Whereas the spending rate for insurance and health care is unsustainable; therefore, “Be it resolved, the Jackson County Democratic Party, representing over 12,000 registered Democratic voters, calls on all members of Congress to carefully consider proposed health care reform legislation; and “Be in further resolved, the party expects Congress to implement reform that provides for more effective and efficient delivery of high-quality health care; and “Be it further resolved, the party calls on members of Congress to provide for all Americans, through a public option, equal access to health care regardless of ability to pay.” I urge everyone interested in reform to contact our representatives and senators and urge them to vote for a public option.
