Frame for Sylva pavilion to be raised May 26
SMN

The Friends of Sylva’s Bridge Park Project will be celebrating the raising of the timber frame pavilion at Bridge Park on May 26.

Goshen Timber Frames of Franklin will erect the frame beginning at 8 a.m. A community potluck picnic is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. Hotdogs and hamburgers will be available for a small donation.

The Bridge Park Project is a community effort to create a covered performance pavilion, market space and public garden, along with improved parking, at the Municipal Parking Lot in downtown Sylva.

The project’s goal is to develop this underused area of downtown into an attractive, accessible and functional public park.

The Bridge Park Project has raised more than $100,000. Those wanting to donate can purchase a wooden peg, which will be used in the construction of the pavilion for $10. Donors can sign the peg and be part of the pavilion forever, said Sarah Graham, executive director of the Downtown Sylva Association.

Pegs will be sold at Sylva’s Farmers Market on May 17 and 24. The market is held in parking lot behind Peebles.
