Cherokee’s Memorial Day Trout Tournament will give anglers the chance to compete for $10,000 in tagged fish swimming the freestone streams of Cherokee, Friday, May 26, through Sunday, May 28.

Tagged fish will be specially stocked for the event, with all waters but for 2.2 miles of excluded catch-and-release streams open to competitors. Individual prizes range from $25 to $1,000, with an $11 entry fee.

In the midst of the tournament, the Strawberry Festival will offer entertainment Saturday, May 27, at the Cherokee Indian Fair Grounds. Sponsored by the North American Indian Women’s Association, the festival will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with strawberries and strawberry products for sale, as well as a variety of children’s activities, contests and entertainment.

The trout tournament is open to all ages and legal fishing methods. Registration is available anywhere permits are sold, including online at Cherokee fishing permit required.
