Lee Knight to present free educational music program

art leeknightFolk singer/storyteller Lee Knight will bring his unique sounds to the stage of the Village Commons in Cashiers at 7 p.m. Aug. 28 for “Before Bluegrass–Ancient and Old-Time Music of the Southern Appalachians.”

The program will include Cherokee chants and flute tunes as well as Appalachian versions of English-Scottish ballads, and the development of our own music, for example, local ballads, banjo tunes and labor songs. He will use a fretless banjo, Appalachian dulcimer, regular 5-string banjo and more.

Raised in the Adirondack Mountains of New York and spending the last 30 years in the Southern Appalachians of North Carolina, Knight has been dubbed, “A Man from Two Mountains.”

Knight is an accomplished performer who has graced stages across the globe including such notable domestic venues as Carnegie Hall and the John C. Campbell Folk School.

Before Bluegrass is part of the Village Nature Series, a free program co-hosted by Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust and the Village Green. The event is free and open to the public.
