Photography classes turn the eye to nature in WNC

out photogA field photography program that includes four Wednesday morning shoots, three evening group critiques and field discussions will be held Sept. 4-Oct. 2.

The Tuesday evening critique sessions are from 6-8 p.m. and will take place at the Waynesville Old Armory Recreation Center at 44 Boundary St. in Waynesville. Class instructor Bob Grytten plans to be there by 5 p.m. for the first session for those who may have individual questions about equipment or other issues.

On Wednesday mornings, the group will carpool from the Armory at 8 a.m. to the site for the field shoot.

“Field shoots will be devoted to hands-on work in a natural setting,” says Grytten. “Bring a tripod. It if is raining, we will adjust our activities. Some of the best work can be done in misty weather. However, it is always a good idea to bring rain gear when going out on a shoot. Being comfortable is important.”

Field shoots will include the Elk Rut at Cataloochee Valley, area waterfalls, and landscapes and other natural events which are often determined by weather conditions.

The field shoots are $45 each, and Tuesday evening programs are $10 each. A 20 percent discount is available for those who take part in all sessions.
