The goal of the workshop is to introduce youth to the creative process through concept development, drawing on the right side of the brain, use of pastel and acrylic medium, use of surface media, transferring the individual art concept to a group composition, and the creation of small and large sized artwork. It will also prepare them to paint for an audience at the October fine arts festival ColorFest.

The workshop is open to 15 participants between the ages of 6 and 16. Once completed, the mural will be placed in the town of Dillsboro.

Catch the Spirit of Appalachia, the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, The Jackson County Arts Council, Dillsboro Merchants Association and the Jackson County Visual Artists Association are putting on the workshop with funding from the North Carolina Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
