art rickman“Music, Art & Poetry Night,” an open mic arts night, will begin at 7 p.m. June 29 at the Rickman Store in Macon County.

Organizers ask that all who wish to share their creative works arrive to sign up no later than 6:45 p.m. Each participant will perform for 12 to 15 minutes each and share their works with local and visiting musicians, artists and poets.

The Rickman Store was a mainstay in the Cowee Community for many years. Constructed in 1895, Thomas Rickman purchased the store in 1925 and operated it until his death in 1994. The Land Trust for the Little Tennessee acquired the land in August of 2007 and reopened the doors to the Rickman store.

We don’t plan to change that model. Support from our readers will help us maintain and strengthen the editorial independence that is crucial to our mission to help make Western North Carolina a better place to call home. If you are able, please support The Smoky Mountain News.
