The money will allow TU to remove or replace culverts across three headwater streams, reconnect 9 miles of aquatic habitat and eliminate a significant sediment source to these otherwise high-quality waters. Additionally, the grant will allow TU to leverage $338,000 from other partners to expand coldwater conservation to other sites in the region.
TU is one of 14 organizations in North Carolina and South Carolina to receive a grant. The grants collectively total more than $1 million. The Water Resources Fund is a $10 million commitment from Duke, with grant applications reviewed by the independent Water Resources Fund committee.
