Haywood County school bus rear-ended

On Friday, May 12, at approximately 6:50 a.m., Haywood County Schools bus 52 was making a passenger stop in the Dellwood area of Waynesville when it was hit in the rear by a pickup truck. There was no physical damage to the bus and minor damage to the pickup truck.

Bus 52 transports students from Waynesville Middle School and Tuscola High School. Law enforcement and school officials went promptly to the site. Two middle school students were transported to the hospital for precautionary purposes. Their parents and school officials also went to the hospital to be with the students.

Bus 52 was cleared for use at the site and transported the remaining students to Waynesville Middle School and Tuscola High School after released by law enforcement.

Parents were notified at the accident site or upon the student’s arrival at school.

“We are thankful there were no apparent serious injuries” said, Associate Superintendent Bill Nolte. “We appreciate the quick response from Todd Trantham our Transportation Director, Principal Trevor Putnam and Principal Travis Collins. They checked on the students who were transported and assured parents were contacted.”
