The school will be held 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays from Jan. 12 to March 1 at SCC’s Swain Center in partnership with the N.C. Cooperative Extension and the N.C. Department of Agriculture. Sessions will include farm evaluation, goal-setting, product marketing, understanding the important numbers, issues facing agribusiness and funding options.

“When we launched this effort last year, we were blown away by the response from area farmers,” said Tiffany Henry, director of SCC’s Small Business Center.  “There is a definite need for the Appalachian Farm School in Jackson, Macon, Swain counties and the Qualla Boundary, and this grant funding will allow us to have all the resources we need to help area farmers continue to be successful.”

Giving small-to-medium-size farm owners the tools to create or revise business plan for economically sustainable enterprises, last year’s inaugural school drew 26 farmers. The school is a program of the Western North Carolina Food Policy Council and supported by CFWNC.
