Clingmans Dome Road opens for the year

out clingmansClingmans Dome Road in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park opened last week, six days ahead of its scheduled April 1 opening.

Mild temperatures the week preceding had allowed park crews to prepare the road ahead of schedule, allowing the 7-mile spur road to 6,643-foot Clingman’s Dome to handle vehicles more quickly.

More seasonal opening dates for park facilities are online at www.nps.gov/ grsm/planyourvisit/hours.htm.

We don’t plan to change that model. Support from our readers will help us maintain and strengthen the editorial independence that is crucial to our mission to help make Western North Carolina a better place to call home.
