Winter road closures begin in the national forest

Seasonal road closures have begun in the Pisgah and Nantahala National Forests.

These closures affect motorized vehicles and are intended to protect wildlife habitat, decrease wildlife disturbance, reduce road maintenance costs and protect public safety during long bouts of adverse weather. Emergency road closures due to weather or resource conditions can occur at any time. For current road conditions, contact the district ranger office.

In the Appalachian Ranger District of the Pisgah National Forest, the following roads will be closed through April 2:

  • South Toe River/Forest Service Road 472
  • Neals Creek/FSR 2074
  • Flat Top/FSR 278
  • Big Ivy/FSR 74
  • Stony Fork/FSR 63
  • Hickey Fork/FSR 465
  • Hurricane Gap/FSR 467
  • Mill Ridge/FSR 113
  • Cataloochee/FSR 3549

In the Tusquitee Ranger District of the Nantahala National Forest, the following roads will be closed through April 15.

In Cherokee County:

  • Beech Creek/FSR 307
  • Cherokee Lake/FSR 313
  • Chambers Creek/FSR 2071
  • Derreberry Gap/FSR 6148
  • Panther Gap/FSR 85A
  • Persimmon Creek/FSR 651
  • Stateline Loop/FSR 420-6
  • Tellico River/FSR 420-5
  • Tatham Gap/FSR 423
  • Powerline Cove/FSR 6020
  • Bear Paw/FSR 435

In Clay County:

  • Deep Gap/FSR 71
  • Nelson Ridge/FSR 351
  • Perry Gap/ FSR 350
  • Tuni Gap/FSR 440

In the Cheoah Ranger District of the Nantahala National Forest in Graham County, the following roads will close through April 15:

  • Big Fat/FSR 62
  • Farley Cove/FSR 407
  • Tatham Gap/Long Creek/FSR 423
  • Long Hungry/FSR 1127
  • Santeelah Creek/FSR 81
