‘Dracula’ to air on WWNC

art draculaWestern Carolina University’s original radio broadcast adaptation of Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel Dracula will hit the Western North Carolina airwaves at 9 p.m. Oct. 31 in a special Halloween night program on WWNC-AM/570.

The hour-long show was originally staged in front of a live audience of nearly 1,000 people at WCU’s John W. Bardo Fine and Performing Arts Center in January. The cast featured students, faculty, staff and professional actors from across the university and the region. The 40-piece orchestra for the production was composed of WCU music faculty and students and string players from the Asheville Symphony Orchestra.

    art theplaceMary Harper was quite possibly the first real friend I made when I moved to Western North Carolina.

    With my apartment a few blocks away from the Water’n Hole Bar & Grill in Waynesville, I ventured down there at night trying to see what was up in this town, trying to make some friends, and trying not to feel alone and isolated in a new place where I was unknown to all who surrounded me. Harper, with her million-dollar smile and swagger, immediately made me feel at home.
