Pancake breakfast to support international and local charities

Sylva Rotary Club will host its twice-annual pancake breakfast from 7:30-10 a.m. on Oct. 26 at the First United Methodist Church in downtown Sylva.

Proceeds will go to the local Neighbors in Need organization and the international Polio Plus program.

There is a suggested $5 donation, but no tickets are needed to attend the event. All you can eat pancakes, sausage and hot and cold beverages will be served. Take out for businesses will be available.

    art theplaceMary Harper was quite possibly the first real friend I made when I moved to Western North Carolina.

    With my apartment a few blocks away from the Water’n Hole Bar & Grill in Waynesville, I ventured down there at night trying to see what was up in this town, trying to make some friends, and trying not to feel alone and isolated in a new place where I was unknown to all who surrounded me. Harper, with her million-dollar smile and swagger, immediately made me feel at home.
