Speaker to discuss the history of cameras

Haywood County Historical and Genealogical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 25 at the First Methodist Church on Haywood Street in Waynesville.

There will be a short business meeting, followed by a program presented by Roland Osbourne. Osbourne will trace the history of cameras from the pre-Civil War years through the early twentieth century. He will display a functioning large-format camera for anyone interested in taking a picture. The meeting is free and open to the public.

    art theplaceMary Harper was quite possibly the first real friend I made when I moved to Western North Carolina.

    With my apartment a few blocks away from the Water’n Hole Bar & Grill in Waynesville, I ventured down there at night trying to see what was up in this town, trying to make some friends, and trying not to feel alone and isolated in a new place where I was unknown to all who surrounded me. Harper, with her million-dollar smile and swagger, immediately made me feel at home.
