Girls volleyball prep league at Waynesville Recreation Center

A volleyball development league for girls in fourth through sixth grade will be held on Mondays from 6 to 8 p.m. in March and April, except for April 21, at the Waynesville Recreation Center. The purpose of the league is to expose girls to volleyball before they reach the seventh grade, when they can try out for a school team. Hosted by the Waynesville Parks and Recreation Department, the league will teach athletes the basics of passing, setting, spiking, offensive strategies and defensive strategies. Registration will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed by a brief parent meeting, Monday, March 3, at the Waynesville Recreation Center. Jennifer Parton will oversee the league, with assistance from student athletes from Pisgah and Tuscola high schools’ volleyball teams.  The cost is $40. Harper, with her million-dollar smile and swagger, immediately made me feel at home.
