Farmers Market Season
Farmers Markets provide a perfect opportunity to find local, fresh produce, get outside on the weekends and mingle with your community. Below is a guide to some of the great markets throughout Western North Carolina.
Haywood’s Historic Farmers Market: Open Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., April 9 through Dec. 16. Located in the HART Theater parking lot, 250 Pigeon Road, Waynesville, NC. Established in 2008, Haywood’s Historic Farmers Market is a producer-only market, featuring produce sourced from Haywood or an adjacent county, meats, fish, eggs, honey, dairy, flowers, nursery plants, preserves, baked goods, heritage crafts, and much more!
Jackson County Farmers Market: Open Wednesdays, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Innovation Station in Dillsboro, and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in downtown Sylva at Bridge Park, April through October, then just Saturday mornings in November and December from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.The Jackson County Farmers Market is year-round in our outdoor location and features only locally grown produce, herbal products, and crafts. Many of our growers use organic practices. Please feel free to ask them questions about their growing practices.
Swain County Farmers Market: Open Fridays and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., May through October. Local farmers and authentic artisans, picnic tables, live music, pet-friendly (leashed), rain or shine.

Franklin Farmers Market: Open Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., April through October, located in the parking lot between 226 and 268 East Palmer Street in Franklin. The Franklin Farmers Tailgate Market was established in 2001 by a group of local organic growers. The members had a common interest in gardening organically and many had more than enough to sell. From there, the Franklin Tailgate Market Association was formed to organize and run a farmers market.
Asheville City Market: Open Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., April through December, located at North Market Street. Asheville City Market was established in 2008 as a learning lab to pilot new programs and provide more opportunities for farmers, particularly those unable to access existing market options.
North Asheville Tailgate Market: Open Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., April through November, on the campus of UNC Asheville in parking lot P28. The North Asheville Tailgate Market is a weekly, Saturday morning gathering of the best farmers, craftsmen, and bakers. With over 40 vendors and more than 40,000 annual customers, the market’s energetic and warm environment welcomes all.
West Asheville Tailgate Market: Open Tuesdays 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., located at 718 Haywood Road. At the West Asheville Tailgate Market, vendors' tables are abundant with an array of goods including fruits, vegetables, baked goods, bread, eggs, cheese, milk, meat, poultry, and fish. Visitors will also find plant starts for gardens, locally made specialty items, natural beauty products, herbal medicine, and locally made art and crafts. There is live music and free kids activities so there's fun for the whole family.
